HDSSG was founded by parents of children with Down Syndrome in the Huddersfield area.

We are a registered charity ( no.1096206) run entirely by parent volunteers.
We believe it is crucial to celebrate our children’s achievements, champion their views and aspirations, challenge out-dated thinking and spread current, accurate information about Down Syndrome. Our strategy to achieve this includes maintaining a dialogue with the Local Authority (health and education), supporting and empowering family members to advocate on behalf of their child and sharing our knowledge with any professionals who may benefit.
HDSSG members also arrange social events and activities for children with Down Syndrome and their families. We expect the remit of HDSSG to continue to expand as our children grow into adulthood and we are always open to suggestions for new activities and ways in which we can support our members.
People with Down Syndrome and their families have free, automatic membership of our group if they live within Huddersfield.
